These are some images from my collection of classic H&M photographs. I will be adding additional ones as time permits, so check back often.
The images are grouped into sections: people, maps, stations, yards and rolling stock. Some images (like trains in stations) fit into multiple categories but are only shown once. I welcome your feedback regarding this layout.
Each image is clickable to present a full-sized version. Additionally, the original .TIF scans are available here. Note that these are quite large files (for printing on 8.5x11 paper on a 600 DPI laser printer). Please read the Legal Notice before downloading any of the .TIF files.

Maps
A map of the H&M system. Photograph dated November 3rd, 1910. Note that extensions of the system to the Central RR of NJ terminal in Jersey City, to the Third Avenue Elevated Railroad (at Astor Place) and from 19th Street to 34th Street in Manhattan are shown. Only the extension to 34th Street was ever built, though the junction with the tunnels leading to Astor Place is still visible today - look out the head of a 33rd Street-bound train as it leaves the 9th Street station. There is a bunch of electrical switchgear in the tunnel mouth, but beyond that the tunnel turns right and proceeds for about 250 feet. Parts of the ring erector are still in there. 3851 / A-230
This map is titled "Photo Map Manhattan & Jersey Proposed Church St. Route" and is dated September 8th, 1910. It shows a proposed extension connecting the 34th Street station with Hudson Terminal, running along Broadway from 34th Street to 17th Street and then down University Place, Washington Square East and Wooster Street to Canal Street, then crossing onto Church Street and continuing to Hudson Terminal. Also shown is the extension from 34th Street to 42nd Street and along 42nd to Grand Central. You can also see the IRT subway line, labeled "Rapid Transit Subway. 3841 / A-220
Titled "Permanent Stationing of Tunnel System" and dated June 18th, 1909, this map shows the system with the proposed Astor Place and Grand Central extensions. Other than that, this map reflects the underground portions of the system as they exist today. The letter designations for the tunnels (A through H, J and K) are still used today. 3768 / R-145
This map of the system from March 27th, 1915 shows the line completed to 33rd Street as well as the "Joint Service" portions of the line from Summit Ave. (Journal Square) to Manhattan Transfer, Harrison, and Park Place (Newark). 5658
Entitled "Map Showing Tunnels & R.R. Lines in New Jersey" and dated February 11th, 1909, this is a photograph of a cloth blueprint detailing the various railroads operating in New Jersey and their relationship with the Hudson & Manhattan. 3753 / A-130
This undated map (circa 1912) is titled "H.&M. Route Map. Steam Road Lines One Hour From N.Y. City". Similar to the previous map, it shows the other railroads in the region. 5269
Stations
Hudson Terminal
This is Hudson Terminal, which was torn down to make room for the World Trade Center. Photograph dated April 17th, 1908. 1462
One of a series of three photographs of the blueprint for the track under Hudson Terminal. Unfortunately, the negatives sustained some damage while in storage. This picture, dated July 28th, 1909 shows some of the details of the foundation. 3777 / A-154 (1)
This picture shows the track layout at Hudson Terminal. These curves were even tighter than the ones now used at the World Trade Center. Also note the additional tunnel stubs heading toward the Erie station (now Pavonia/Newport). A photograph of these can be found in the Commemorative Booklet, available here. 3777 / A-154 (2)
More details of the tunnel and foundation. 3777 / A-154 (3)
Hoboken
Car 249 in Hoboken Terminal on April 10th, 1908. This is less than two months after the line opened for service on February 25th, 1908. The description on the negative says "D D C SPECIAL NY & J APRIL '08 C F F". If anyone knows what a "D D C SPECIAL" is, I'd be interested to know. "New York and Jersey R.R." was one of the predecessor companies of the Hudson & Manhattan, as seen in this blueprint caption. 1456
The motorman's cab of car 229 in Hoboken Terminal. Note that this caption says "HO&M". The Hoboken & Manhattan Railroad Co. was also a predecessor of the Hudson & Manhattan, as shown here. Photograph dated February 5th, 1908. 1419 / H&M-637
Summit Ave. (Journal Square)
A view of the old Summit Avenue station. We are east of it looking to the west. Photograph dated September 30th, 1912. 5168
This is a view dated September 13th, 1909 which says the view is looking east to Summit Ave from Hudson County Boulevard (now Kennedy Boulevard). 1827
This photograph, dated September 16th, 1909 has the caption "Penna R.R. Bet Summit Ave. & Blvd Looking W". Like the previous picture, I can't place it. It looks like we're looking east. Any information would be appreciated.
