I've been asked by a number of people what sort of spare parts and tools I keep in my Atom's "trunk" while I'm on the road. Here's a list of what is currently in my Atom - I sometimes add more items when I'm going on a long trip or will be in places where there is no phone service and little or no traffic (such as Death Valley in August).

  • Towel - very important Do you know where your towel is?
  • Extra "Hot! Do Not Touch!" stickers
  • Copies of insurance and registration documents in a waterproof bag
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Helmet cleaner spray
  • Reflective safety vest
  • Streamlight 51006 LED flashlight w/ 3 Lithium Ion AA batteries
  • Electrical tape
  • Lug adapter and 4 spare lug nuts
  • 1/2" Allen wrench (for suspension Hiem bolts)
  • SAE Allen wrench set (5/64" to 3/8")
  • 10-way screwdriver
  • 2 spanners for adjusting suspension
  • Crescent wrench
  • Slip-joint pliers
  • Needlenose pliers
  • Diagonal cutters
  • Razor blades
  • Tube of Ultra Black formable gasket goop
  • Extra bags
  • Spare headlight lamp
  • Note: I no longer carry 1156 and 1157 lamps or screws for the lenses since switching to LED lights
  • Spare fuses and relays
  • Small and large black cable ties
  • Velcro
  • 1/4-turn fasteners and assorted grommets
  • 1 of each type of rod end
  • 2 each of 3 lengths of 1/8" Allen head stainless bolts w/ Kep nuts
  • Assorted sizes of stainless steel hose clamps to replace any clamps that break

All of the above items fit (barely!) in a pair of Klein 5139 electrician's canvas bags.
