This is to announce version 2.1 of Xtartan, a program to draw Scottish
tartans. XTartan is an X-Windows based program that generates Scottish
tartans ("plaid" patterns for you Yanks) from information in a standard X
resource file.

The tartan can be interactively modified to change its scale, linewidth, and
its color mode (ancient vs. modern). If you have the Xpm library available,
you can generate xpm files as well. In addition, you can also display the
tartan in the root window.

The default resource file contains over 240 tartans.

XTartan can be found on ftp.x.org in /contrib/applications/xtartan-2.1.tar.Z

After extracting the files, edit the Imakefile to configure the location of
the xpm library and header files (or to disable xpm if you don't have it),
type "xmkmf" and then "make". It has been tested on a DECStation 5000
(Ultrix 4.3, X11R5) and an SGI Indy (Irix 5.2, X11R5). It does not require
Motif, but Xpm support requires the xpm library which can be found in
ftp.x.org (/contrib/libraries).
