Write access to a DECdns namespace is no H longer required. The DECnet software must be startedD before the DECdfs software. If you are running DECnet B Phase V, the DECdfs startup statement can be placed 7 anywhere within your SYSTARTUP procedure.uE If DECdns software is not available, the DECdfs startup2E procedure issues an advisory message to that effect andS$ continues the startup.% 5.3 Upgrading DECdfs SoftwareaH This kit upgrades any previous version of DECdfs software.I If possible, reboot your system before starting the upgrade C and disable the startup of DECdfs. Typically, this iswH accomplished by commenting out the call to DFS$STARTUP.COMG in your SYSTARTUP procedure. Disabling an earlier versiondI of DECdfs software ensures that incompatible DECdfs driversgH and images are not loaded when Version V2.4A is installed.A Because drivers cannot be unloaded or replaced, the E presence of loaded drivers prevents the new DECdfs from C being started and prevents the IVP from being run. IfdE the system is rebooted before the installation, it doesE not need to be rebooted again after the installation is_F completed. Otherwise, a reboot is necessary to place the# new version into use..I If necessary, you can continue running your present versionaG of DECdfs software during the Version V2.4A installation.oH This might be necessary if the installation kit is locatedE on a DECdfs-served disk. However, once the installationiE is completed, DFSCP commands do not work because of the.C incompatibility of new and old images. If this is not done, the name server may G refuse to register the access points under DECnet Phase VeF because the node name has a different syntax and format.E Use the REMOVE ACCESS_POINT command, giving each access 4 point name that is served by the node.D After the DECnet Phase V upgrade and reinstallation ofI DECdfs, the normal server startup procedure reregisters theo1 access points with the name server.vI In any other case where a server permanently ceases servingeH an access point, the REMOVE ACCESS_POINT command should be2 used before the server is shut down.6 6.7 Use of STOP COMMUNICATIONS Not RecommendedD HP recommends using the SHUTDOWN COMMUNICATION commandC instead of STOP COMMUNICATION. The STOP COMMUNICATIONsC command stops communication as soon as the command iseD entered and aborts all existing connections regardlessD of whether an operation is in progress. This may causeF processes to hang or the system to crash. In contrast toD STOP COMMUNICATION, SHUTDOWN COMMUNICATION initiates aE controlled shutting down of services and does not aborteD user operations.
