Now includes movie running times! The Dr. Who Story and Program Guide provides broadcast order, production codes, titles, dates, companions, repeat appearances, episode counts, program length, archive status, the locations of the stories and some useful indexes. All this is packed into 14 pages of cleartext. The type of information provided is just what you need to be at your best in The Doctor Who Quote Quiz and similar contests, or just to keep track of your TV viewing and tape collection. This document is designed to be printed on normal paper (66 lines per page), and 78 characters wide max. Cut where indicated and make sure the CONTROL-Ls have survived the trip before you print it. Enjoy! Frank Durda IV ----cut here---- Dr. Who Story and Program Guide Version 2(25) 18-Oct-92 Compilation & format Copyright 1991,1992 by Frank Durda IV You may reprint or redistribute provided you give credit. You may not sell this work. You may not charge for access or place an additional copyright or restrictions on this work. Other uses must be approved in advance in writing. UUnet is allowed to archive this document. The programs are listed in broadcast order. Each Season has a title line that indicates the dates when the season started and ended for first-run episodes. The number of episodes in the season, how often they were broadcast, and the day of week (SA, M, T, W, TH, F) are also given. Any special event for that season (new actor plays The Doctor, color/colour broadcasting begins, etc) will be mentioned on a subsequent line. Each line for a story starts with the production code that was used by the BBC to keep track of each story, followed by the title of the story. The next two columns contain the keys for companions present in that story and for repeat- appearance characters. (Refer to the table at the end of the guide for the key.) The next item shows the number of episodes and if the BBC has the com- plete story in the archive, partial or poor grade materials, or none at all. (This information was up to date when posted, but the BBC still occasionally finds previously-lost material.) Next is the running time for the movie format of the story, if the BBC offers it. Finally, you are given the locations where the story took place. (If all the action on Earth takes place outside of England, and we know where, it is noted.) When the information in a given column won't fit, it overflows and the subsequent columns start on next line. Disclaimer: Not Responsible for errors, but will gratefully accept corrections. Please send them to uhclem@nemesis.lonestar.org. If you have information regarding new archive finds, please indicate where you got this information. Thanks. Stories broadcast prior to 1-Jan-70 were made in BW. Stories after that date were in Color, but some of the tapes have been lost, wiped, or have gone bad in the can. Note: just because the BBC archive doesn't have it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. For brevity, only the highest-grade materials are listed. For Color stories, "The highest grade" is chosen in this order: C (Color originals), R (Restored color), Q (NTSC Color & PAL BW), and lastly, B (BW is all that remains). For stories where the archive has all the episodes in one format, a single letter will indicate what the BBC has. For stories where some episodes are missing, only available in BW, etc, the episode or range of episodes is listed followed by the letter that indicates their status. So, 6:1-2B,4-5C,6Q means parts 1 and 2 are only available in BW, 4 and 5 are in color, part 6 is available in NTSC Color and PAL BW, and the BBC doesn't have a copy of episode 3 in any format. Each grading code is described in detail below. N No episodes of the story are in the archives. Entire story is lost. A Story originally recorded in BW, using BBC 405 video (for stories A to OO) or BW PAL 625 video (for stories PP to ZZ) or BW film (16 or 35 mm). The BW original or a copy exists in the archive. Note that some BBC 405 stories were converted to film for final editing. C Story originally made in Color, using PAL 625 video or color film. The color original or a reasonable quality copy exists in the archive. B Story originally made in Color, using PAL 625 video or color film. All color master/copies have been lost, or are of poor quality. A Black & White PAL tape or an overseas or simultaneous service BW film or tape is all that has been recovered to date. Q Story originally made in Color, using PAL 625 video or color film. The BBC has lost the PAL/film masters, but has in its possession a Black & White overseas or simultaneous service BW film/tape AND NTSC Color copies. The BBC has reconverted many of the non-Umatic NTSC color copies back to PAL and now considers these broadcastable in PAL. (The NTSC color copies continue to be used in NTSC countries.) Images that have gone through a PAL->NTSC->PAL conversion usually suffer motion artifacts and color temperature/density errors.) When a story exists only in PAL BW or Umatic NTSC Color, it is shown in BW everywhere. R Same as Q, but the PAL BW image has been combined with the color component from a Umatic or other "unbroadcastable" NTSC source to create a new PAL color image (Reconstructed). As of this posting, only Part 3 of "Planet of the Daleks" and Part 1 of "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" remain as Pertwee-era episodes where no color version exists in the archives. I Never Completed (Shada). P Clips or fragments of a given episode are all that exist.
