Dear Paul, thanks for posting this; I'd not have seen the news otherwise. I put _Future Days_ on and had a beer in his honour. I'd been a bit concerned because they are now playing without Tsuyama Atsushi, the monster-bass player and throat singer who for me made up so much of the band's personality, and I didn't quite know what it would be like without him. Faster and simpler, turned out to be the answer, but losing nothing in terms of impact or high-octane spaciness. The new bass-player (whom the website calls only Wolf) is fantastic, and very very fast: with him on board they don't really have the option of slowing down, although they did do a version of one song I knew ('Pink Lady Lemonade', maybe? I'm not sure which title belongs with which song) that was ony maybe twice its recorded speed with some new bouncy basslines. That was the general vibe, anyway: get started, take off at full speed and stay there till crashing into a huge airbag of feedback noise some ten minutes later. It was great, and I recommend the new AMT without hesitation. One thing of note, though, only half the set at most was theirs, the rest was covers. They opened with Black Sabbath's 'Wicked World', went on with Gong's 'Flying Teapot' (fantastic), did one thing I didn't know, then Gong's 'Master Builder' (only just recognisable but excellent), that song that may be 'Pink Lady Lemonade' and one other and then it was curfew time. We shouted for an encore but nothing doing; oh well. I came home happy anyway. Hoping everyone else is similar, yours all, Jon -- Jonathan Jarrett, Leeds jjarrett at chiark.greenend.org.uk "May the Lord Almighty guard your life, because among other things it is of great value in silencing the idiocies of blatherskites." But Imagine early punk and a dash of glam, jamming lead guitar soloing and Hawkwind influences perhaps, highly recommended! Look for Terry Brooks & Strange on Discogs, many albums have been reissued by Akarma and SPM on both CD and LP over the years. Rite now i am playing the ROCK FORCE comp and it rocks much force indeed. Christian -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The other songs are Brainticketish jammy affairs. Jurgen Engler (Die Krupps) and Nicky Garratt (Chelsea, UK Subs) among others and Simon House guesting. Also the new Hawklords has no Ron Tree. The additional departure of Steve Swindells and Ade Shaw some years ago leaves only Harvey Bainbridge and Jerry Richards as True Hawkmembers in the line up, but Dave Pearce and Tom Ashurst do some great work on the rhythm section none the less. Into the Woods was better than The Machine Stops IMO, songs like Have You Seen Them? really get me singing along... I am auditioning for a slot with Radio Nova hope i get this thing on the air, after my departure from Blitz and RadioRakel some years ago. I am on page 200 something of The Whispering Swarm, just into part II and its 1968 so no Hawkwind yet and Moorcock is passing time in the Tanelorn-like world of London's "Alsatia" ... It seems Mike fancies himself as the EC this time around. Good read, enjoying it tho Moorcock does not suspend too much disbelief with the Alsatia world too much, but now it kind of gets more mystical what it really is? Moorcock yes he was thinking rather explanatory in the book (kind of like faking it) "its a movie set" an "LSD trip" or c) "I am a mental patient".. LOL i am thinking between the reality of his real world and this other world its a new idea intercut into 60s history of Fleet Street and Ladbroke Grove settings of Mikes life... it works but it doesent!
