A > fun night none the less and Nik was in great spirit and played well > also.. Dear all, a solid `amen' to what Scott says here, and a few other bits and pieces... Chris on synths was Chris Parlowe (I think) who has been behind the various Calvert revival stuff, the plays and the reprint of his books. The new bassist was also playing with Inevitable, his name was Gary and he *likes his funk*; the first few SR numbers sounded quite different from usual (and kind of similar) but he wore into the blanga thing in time for `Brainstorm' and `Master of the Universe' (which were the last two numbers). Terry Ollis took a while to warm up but once he started putting fills in it was like fifteen years fell off him and he spent the whole gig thereafter regaining form, marvellous to watch. Sam Ollis his son was also playing on some numbers, hidden at stage left with his back to everyone else, on percussion and DJing as Nik introduced him but I saw no sign of the DJing. It was weird to watch how he and his dad shared almost the same sense of where the fills and emphasis should go but never actually clocked in with each other; they made an excellent but seemingly subconscious pair. Angel was dancing, and was pushing the line between dancer and stripper a lot harder than she usually does but was still fantastic, and took a stage dive at one point which confused and either delighted or horrified quite a lot of the audience I think! Nik was also on excellent form, by which I mainly mean loud and cheerful--he counted the band back in twice without actually being on the beat himself, but we kind of expect this :-) He was making a big deal out of the billing of this as the final public performance of the band, ginning up a lot of audience agitation for them to continue on, and demanding that if that's we wanted we make a noise on the Internet about it by way of support (so here I am doing...). I wonder now if this was connected with the disappearance of the second band who were supposed to be playing, his Project 9, from the billing. Has his alternative vehicle caught a flat? (Not that being flat ever bothered Nik...) Anyway, though I'm still not clear that Thomas Crimble is an asset, this was a band that would be worth seeing again and so I kind of hope we do. Well, mine came day before yesterday but I didn't know it was in the box. Anyway, yesterday, I did my fave thing to do with it: (In between the kidney stone and the headache)..... Try to get the White House to hear the music from Dallas all the way out my window. And the almost impossible happened: The maintenance man came to ask me to turn it down. Of course it was already down since I am extremely "clever",.....it was awful close..... So krankschaft now have the prestige of blasting the hood like nobody else. I think the neighbor(s) might have thought I WANTED them to do that, andt there is a new guy sleeping in daytime :) BUT: Do they also have the prestige of ruining any (cheap arse) CD players?? I normally just use a Sony portable on my stereo, because it still works and I like it well enough but I also have 2 other cheap CD players (not anymore) and 2 DVD players, and out of them all not a one of them lacks something I do not like. Anyway, "Blanga" seems to be a kind of CDR?? and it was misreading in my Sony (as is common with CDRs), so I changed to one of the REALLY cheap portables and suddenly that one no longer spins the CD, so then I changed to the other really cheap portable and that one now just calls error?? Both of those were bought new and barely have use. is this coincidence or am I victim of a krankyprank?? So anyway, yes Blanga is great on one listen. Not sure if I like it BETTER than Flame Red (also one listen), but it is awfully good. I put electric tape over all the holes on the deadly CD weapon and now i ask for anyone to tell me my errors in thinking or not. is the (electric) tape safe to have on it as far as rotting the CD later?? is the tape unnecessary because this is all in my mind and I simply having a conicidental "bad patch"?? Did you ger yours yet Johnny?? :) anyone else?? Yeah I played it again just a while ago on the "good" DVD player. I guess I will uncover the television set and experiment with using it for the menu :) (rolls imaginary eyes) > The sound is differnt to 'Flame Red'-- more blanga. Yeah it's good. I am especially fond of the "come fly with us" thing I noticed all the blanga riffing > Not sure if it is a CDR. Does not look like one. It just seems slightly gold tinted and lightweight.....I was never claming to know exactly what it is or isn't. I've already peeled the tape off and will just "bill" krankschaft if it takes anything out :) what IS all that "deadly laser weapon" schtuff about?? I also did not fail to notice the: "any resembelance to pork product conicidental" But then it IS telling you to watch out, it seems, and they take credit for the application :) > Recent DVD/'Blu-Ray players mostly play CDRs anyway. yeah I guess I will get a blue ray, but just hope it does EVERYTHING fine and operates manually, easily, especially the shuffle play The Sony portable I always use has problems if there is TOO MUCH music on a disc and it doesn't like CDs that have silver in the center part where it is usually clear. > I ripped the music from the CD and play it that way. I wish I had a brain that extended beyond UFOs... coded: please forgive me one MORE time, I wandered off to watch TV, then have been sick basically with this, that and the other pain until now, and now I am immersed in my "UFO studies" :) I am often slow, but the "love" is there!! ps- Blanga is a joy to behold......what a package and it is great. > > On 13 December 2014 at 01:08, mike c wrote: >> >> On 12/1/14, Jonathan Smith wrote: >> > It is in on its way. That time of year again, when I come out of hiding to ask for help on what I've missed in the last year, new releases-wise. Here's a working list of things I've heard (a few outside the space/kraut/stoner/postrock realm, but not many) - what's obviously missing? I haven't started to make out my Best of the year list yet, but things I really liked this year include the Camera, The Ganjas, White Manna (again), Black Bombaim, Papir, The Spacelords, sleepmakeswaves, OSC, Polska Radio One (nothing full-length this year, but...) and on... What're you all listening to? I haven't paid much attention to the whole HW- and Gong- families, as far as spinoffs and such. You know, ADavey, Daevid Allen, Nik, Blake (I heard something from a few years ago, Noggi Tor or whatever it was). Anything good from this lot lately? Anything new from ToSHer Steve Bemand (Timelords) due soon? Their first album was great. Keith H. 2014 List: Black Space Riders - D:REI Evil Blizzard (Preston) - The Dangers Of...
