The Ritz is a FAR superior venue to Academy 2 where they've played for the last several years. More room, sprung floor, balcony, better sound and acoustics. Only draw back was the more commercial beer prices. I was fairly drunk, so details are a bit vague. Started off with one of the warrior poems (Awakening?), then MoTU and You'd better believe it. They played Hills have ears and Seasons from the new album. Possibly a slower piece also as a middle section (my problem is I tend not to recognise the songs unless they've got a guitar riff or clear melody bit, especially when inserted into another song I do recognise) Also Prometheus from Blood of the Earth. We got the Assault and Battery/Golden Void 'medley', which they've been playing last year and will need for the Warrior play-through tour. The rest of the set included where are they now, arrival in utopia, damnation alley. the encore was Spirit of the age apparently (I'd have been hollering along but have no recollection of it, ah rum!) and Silver Machine. Dibs was using his skeleton cello and doing more vocal work than before, and doing it better than before too. Dead Fred was doing the organ as on the last tour (but see below) which really helps fill out the sound. Dave's guitar was also well up in the mix and clearly audible despite the full heavy overall sound. There was no new T-Shirt and the 'tour' T-shirt was the one from last year with 'onward' on it, and last years tour dates on the back (I'd got one in Holmfirth), so I think these January gigs are being seen as the second part of that tour, which the set list (such as I remember it) also suggests. Other T-Shirts were a similar design with this picture from BoTE in a roundel on the back. They also had the Stella Variations and Looking for love in the Lost Land of Dreams CDs and signed posters. More sensible reviews of the same gig here and here. My first sectioning in a facility was 1999 and then 2003-2008 and not since - so this is my 5th year away from that ridiculous insane asylum. I totally hate medicines etc, honestly its like the case with Robert Calvert, in a way. Mention that you are psychic, medication and treatment immediately. One thing is audio / sensory stuff. Back in the late 90s/early 00s when i was a streetgoth i had Radio Gnome Invisible in my ears alll the time. Free floating Anarchy Gong Radio. I even spoke with Daevid telepathically, or he actually was on the ear!. Once i got sectioned in 2003 and i said i had been used to audio anarchist radio, they disappeared. Anarchy->>psychiatry do not mix! So now i have been a deaf chimpanzee since 2003, i get by but don't know whats going on with goth or anarchy / Gong cause i don't hear voices - it's been 10 years of silence. WHat next??? When i was a human sacrifice in 1999 i already knew via Hawkwind that i was a special Hippie Child - especially via the warnings Hawkwind gave regarding meeting telepathy head on. Be it by SONIC ATTACK or Zener Cards ala PSI POWER. My first girlfriend was a Hindu and she heard voices, and asked me if i did , and this was in 1994 and i said "No". I had a friend named Ketil who moved to Japan because he heard audio of Japanese people speaking. Basically in 1999 i was greeted by Indian, Norwegian, French and English and German voices in all languages "welcome to the anarchy". This was in January 1999. Later i had signals and bells ringing in my ears, from hovering PSYCHIC TV broadcasts. Nowadays i am the one broadcasting, pictures and thoughts across the ether, hoping one day Radio Gnome Invisible will come back to my ears!!! Humans are telepaths, don't section psychics and make them chimpanzees. You cannot silence their Witchcraft, we live on in Hawkwind.
