The Hotel room window didn't close (though in fairness they changed it and I now have a room with a 4-poster bed) I had the worst Italian meal (how much wrong can you do to a lasagne and green salad - let me tell you.....) I've ever eaten. It took 3 attempts to find the pub. It poured torrents of wet sleet while walking down there and the small venue was heavily crowded! But apart from that the band were excellent and as others have said seem to be playing really well together. Here's a partial set list - I'm sure I'm missing stuff and have got some wrong but others can fill in the gaps or amend: Sonic Attack Better Believe It / a Space Time song segue / Better Believe It A ?new spoken/song about War Dreams and Revolution An Industrial sounding intro leading into another new spoken/song - the images were from the video on the Mission Control page so I wonder if it was perhaps Footsteps of the Great One? Another new one which, I think, might be called something like Hill of ?Years Warriors Angels of Life/Death - enjoyed this one with plenty of drive and energy and a really nice conclusion Prometheus Magnu Tide of the Century - which I thought was absolutely beautiful - nice instrumental intro and a good strong clear vocal (couldn't see who) - in all a well presented track Assassins - with a long, long indy disco drum set in the middle section Sentinal Silver Machine finshed the set Encores: Psycadelic Warlords Spirit of the the Age So (apart from the dreadful DJ in the pub afterwards) I'm in a much improved mood. cheers Jill On 9 December 2011 14:53, wrote: > ** > > > Not a particularly big stage there and low ceiling, so not so much scope > for the lighting as in many venues, but I enjoyed the lights. I never really liked it, but my own ideas on how to approach "Hassan-i Sabbah" are readily available online! :) Cheers, Carl -- Carl Edlund Anderson http://www.carlaz.com/ From jill.strobridge at BLUEYONDER.CO.UK Sat Dec 10 19:18:40 2011 From: jill.strobridge at BLUEYONDER.CO.UK (strobridge jill) Date: Sun, 11 Dec 2011 00:18:40 +0000 Subject: [Hawkwind] Hawkwind Sheffield - Manchester et al In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Full set list found on the forum - courtesy of Kerbcrawler: Sonic Attack/You'd Better Believe It/Seasons/Footsteps/Hills Have Ears/Warriors/Angels Of Death/Prometheus/Magnu/Tide Of The Century/Hassan I Sahba/Sentinel/Space 2001/Silver Machine/Psychedelic Warlords/Spirit Of The Age. No difference in London except that there was a rendition of "Landing on Medusa" before Psychadelic Warlords and Huw joined them onstage for the encore. Incidentally his LLG band is a very efficient unit. Their sound is a bit too sharply harsh on the ears for me but from behind the bar at the back of the venue - actually the best place to be for the whole show - they sounded good. Can't tell you which tracks they played except that Moonglum was one of them and Huw is playing beautifully. Of the new tracks Seasons - the one concerning Wars and Revolutions - seems to have developed even during the course of this short tour (or maybe I'm just hearing it better each time) and is the one track I've come away humming - just need some lyrics now! Shepherd's Bush venue was incredibly overcrowded and though it was another really good show it was difficult to concentrate while trying to dodge being squeezed - and sorry I've no idea who did which vocals cos I never managed to get enough of a view or close enough to see what was going on! I'm sure I heard a violin in Sheffield but there was an announcement in Manchester about someone having to go to Brighton to finish off an album so I think he took no further part in this tour but I'm happy to be proved wrong. And now there's only YouTube to watch. Thank you to the band for another excellent pre-Festive season adventure. I'll try Manchester again - one day! No difference in London except that there was a rendition of "Landing on Medusa" before Psychadelic Warlords and Huw joined them onstage for the encore.???Incidentally his LLG band is a very efficient unit. Their sound is a bit too sharply harsh on the ears for me but from behind the bar at the back of the venue - actually the best place to be for the whole show - they sounded good.???Can't tell you which tracks they played except that Moonglum was one of them and Huw is playing beautifully.???Of the new tracks Seasons - the one concerning Wars and Revolutions - seems to have developed even during the course of this short tour (or maybe? I'm just hearing it better each time) and is the one track I've come away humming - just need some lyrics now!???Shepherd's Bush venue was incredibly overcrowded and though it was another really good show it was difficult to concentrate while trying to dodge being squeezed - and sorry I've no idea who did which vocals cos I never managed to ! get enough of a view or close enough to see what was going on!???I'm sure I heard a violin in Sheffield but there was an announcement in Manchester about someone having to go to Brighton to finish off an album so I think he took no further part in this tour but I'm happy to be proved wrong. And now there's only YouTube to watch. Thank you to the band for another excellent pre-Festive season adventure.? ? I'll try Manchester again - one day! The best I ever heard it done was Brighton 2002(?) when Tim and Richard really jammed it. The alternative I think, would be to the verses from Sword of The East as an intro during Assassins. It's not even certain what all that radioactive emission might be doing to health, with all the towers anyway. recemt studies DO show a seeming link to a kind of brain tumor with at least some. Again, in my opinion, politicians should live in fear of their head exploding, at least to send a message to the REAL people running the show, who are doing things like messing with the weather and the food supply. I ask: is there 1 thing that is not a lie? Time to put down the dope , the football, the whatever distractions that make citizens docile ands get ready for war we are being enslaved and it's been planned for decades. The general population are considered "biologocal assets, if "we" are even still THAT lucky. I perosnally do not think the public has a chance, it has allowed itself to be blind too long, but making things more of a mess would be my idea. This time around anyway, Clarkson was quoted out of context. He made a joke, mainly at the expense of the BBC balance requirement. By quoting half the sentence, the newspapers made it something it wasn't. I doubt Clarkson will be shedding any real tears though. He has a book to promote. Any publicity is good publicity when you're selling something. I think Matthew Wright was slightly funny given that it's decades since the last murder there. Perhaps it having been only a week since the murder, a little more thought could have been given to how the family would feel if they were watching. I think it fails the "If you wouldn't want your mum to see you on the front page for this, don't do it" test. Again though, Wright is in the business of selling controversy, because it brings in viewers. Occasionally judging things badly is presumably seen as a hazard of his trade. He lost it and paddled on the other guy's bonnet (no doubt it's called something else in the YooEss but it's that bit sticking out the front of the car where the engine hides unless you have a Volkswagen, in which case it's in the boot, errr, trunk) with a baseball bat. Hmmmm that's weird. Geoff hates all sport with a vehemence normally reserved only for those who disrespect Anne Coulter. Why did he have a baseball bat in the car? Wait a minute: why do they call it a trunk when it's at the back? The trunk on an elephant is pretty clearly at the front. Jeese. Yanks are just weird. No. On second thoughts. Meeting him might be a bad idea at the moment. Best wait until Gingrinch is invested in The White House. Not only will this mean that entire geneations of boys won't get laid until college, but an entire staple of Hollywood movies will vanish. In the future people will be able to play with their toys to their hearts content in the car, because Google will be driving: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_driverless_car If you think there's wailing and gnashing of teeth over not being able to watch NewTube in the car, just wait until they find out they'll never be permitted to drive again. Meanwhile nature's balance will be restored and teenage boys will again be laid in "Last Summer" by impressing girls with the size of their fondleslabs. One is the guy on Top Gear and the column writer in the comics. That Jeremy Clarkson would line up the entire membership of Greenpeace against a wall and shoot them from a sports car moving at 160mph (he'd also shoot anyone who wants to measure this in kph). That Jeremy Clarkson is a character played by a chap also called Jeremy Clarkson. The normal downside of one's stage name being the same as one's real namee is that it confuses people. However the peculiar nature of Clarkson's act and target market actually requires some such confusion because part of the joke is that people aren't permitted to know whether or not the real Jeremy Clarkson thinks the same way as his stage character. Thus he can say "Let's shoot all the public workers" while winking at those who believe they're in the know, but aren't quite sure. The joke would fail were people sure and, because he uses variations of the joke again and again as part of his brand of entertainment, he must maintain doubt by, as it were, speaking in character when not in fact in character.
