It's streaming format (from Apple/QT) Could be useful to encode it to a streaming format as in the future you could put your own laptop online as a server and therefore access the music from anywhere.... e.g. streamed to your phone You can encode streams at multiple bit rates ...players will detect the 'best' rate to use (so if you have a slow connection it sends a 'lesser' stream - which will, due to it's encoding be of inferior quality :-( (but played locally will play to it's best advantage) I have a friend who insists on the aiff format - but at 10Mb/minute you might want a bigger drive? I would consider looking to FLAC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC) - sounds good and you can play on the ipod connected to your new speakers: :-) *> http://www.conranshop.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=525282&cid=TechnoGifts&language=en-GB I was in London and for some bizarre reason ended up in the Conran shop. These speakers were being used in the shop - which was a large warehouse style - I was impressed with the quality and o/p. The ipod (or any other device) sits in the docking station on the top. Good luck Maxine p.s. make sure you back up whatever drive you decide to buy but don't buy two of the same product coz if one fails the chances are the other one will for the same reasons. We've released it on CD as a Limited (250 copies) Edition with A2 colour poster and glossy photocard, it's also available as an MP3 download, find both versions at www.krankschaft.com. You can hear samples of every track on the MP3 page, but enough of my ramblings let me leave you with a review posted to our website: "When I was younger Robert Calvert often provided my soundtrack. I was born in industrial Sheffield and from my bedroom window I really could see the canal. I could see the cranes, but it was Bob who made me see them as an X-ray of the Taj Mahal. When I was 17 I'd sneak out at night, take my Dad's Morris Marina and drive over the Pennines, flying in fantasies and glorious solitude. When I heard '..Luminous Green Glow..' I realized I wasn't a nut, other people got it. And then he died. It was like I'd boarded a plane that never took off. Many people felt that loss, not least Fred and Steve of Krankschaft, and 'The Flame Red Superstar' goes a long way towards helping us all feel a little better. All the classics are here but not as you know them. I can't pick a favourite track. From the heaviest version of 'Picket Line' you'll ever hear to a fragile, poignant 'Greenfly and the Rose', it's clear that Steve and Fred love these songs and know exactly how to treat them. This is not a compilation, it's an album. It does what an album should do. It makes you dance, it makes you laugh, it makes you cry. It's an integrated piece of audible art, right down to the silence between the tracks. The sounds are beautifully complemented by Doctor Foxon's excellent package and poster designs. Bob's songs were cruelly orphaned at an early age and like many orphans some of them have been mistreated. One thinks of the poor 'Ejection' dragged out and thrashed before the baying mob. Steve and Fred however have nurtured those songs over the years and now we see them, mature adults, taking their place in the world they were born to inherit. -Miniwood. You can hear new stuff: I've heard "Where the Wild Things Are" soundtrack, new Pearl Jam, Flaming Lips, etc. I think I saw like one song from "Imaginos," "Club Ninja," mostly first album through "Fire of Unknown Origin." Sometimes artists will just 30 second clips: the Beatles for instance. It's cool to hear some Pretty Things, John's Children, Pink Fairies, etc. stuff you wouldn't hear everyday. Because that sounds *just* like Bobby Rondinelli to me. Except that the thing with him was that he looked like that all through the gigs, and then when the solo came his arms and legs sped up and he carried on grimacing and panting and so on at exactly the same rate as if his limbs were nothing to do with him. I'm also very impressed with the way Rob took Charlie under their wing, and if you want to see what good packaging and sound quality can be achieved check out Kitchens of Distinction. I also have high hopes for their back catalogue as the band are being personally involved. Therein, probably, lies the difference. We know where the Collectors series tapes came from - there were arguments on that at the time. Also on the issue of Hawkwind Direct - could they have used the trademarked name without permission - draw your own conclusions. As has been said before these releases were aimed at the die hard fan - not casual listener / buyer - and if we don't buy them (i.e. we don't want them) then the costs have to be recouped from elsewhere, again I can only assume with permission. The poorer sound quality could also be due to the fact that thy may be second or 3rd gen tapes supplied as the originals are in the hands of fans (some on here), and we are now lucky enough to have these on CD direct from the "masters". As to Brian's plight, I just hope I'll be OK if I am asked to supply any rarer Charlie Vinyl to help with the bonus tracks! Seriously this is poor and I do sympathise with him. Keep on at them! Personally I'm happy to have these releases, and do share everyone's frustrations at the quality of some of them (Glastonbury and Complete79 being the worst IMO), but if it wasn't Voiceprint it would be someone else who would be releasing them. Remember the weird tapes were originally of a similar ilk to these releases, led to arguments amongst band members, and remember where these led to - Samurai and all those other sub standard releases we do avoid. At least the Voiceprint stuff is tied up legally now I believe. My 2d worth over! The singer was allegedly spotted by a passer-by who was going to work in the Clydeside area of the city. "I came to work and there was a gentleman by my basic entry door to work. I said to him, 'You're cold and wet, would you like a cup of coffee?'" listener Tommy told Rock Radio. "I brought him down a cup of coffee. He said, 'Thank you very much', and introduced himself as Lemmy. "He drank his coffee and we had a little bit of conversation about this, that and the next thing and gave me a pack of cigars." He added: "I would imagine he was just sheltering from the rain. I think there was something going on at the hotel that he didn't want to get involved in." Tommy went on to describe Lemmy as a "really nice guy" and revealed that he helped out one of the delivery men at the workplace. -----Original Message----- From: BOC/Hawkwind Discussion List [mailto:BOC-L at LISTSERV.ISPNETINC.NET] On Behalf Of Owen O'Neill Sent: Monday, November 23, 2009 8:11 PM To: BOC-L at LISTSERV.ISPNETINC.NET Subject: Today is the most important day there is was and ever shall be Today I reveal who I truly am-- that is, I am the emissary from another dimension, sent to tell you that the cosmic balance has tilted in favor of Arioch, god of chaos...And far have the time streams gone.
