OFF: CD Player Advice Requested

FWIW I'd go for Marantz every time, my preference would
be the CD63 MkII but don't know if that's in your price
range, they are about 250 quid in the UK depending how hard
you shop around. I usually grab a copy of What Hi-Fi and
would suggest you get something similar.

BTW, if there are any Audiophiles on the list you should
expect a mass of conflicting advice, the only 'advice' I
would press upon you would be:

1 Pick some kit in your price range.
2 Arrange to audition it on you own system if possible.
3 Buy it.
4 Enjoy...

Most of the large retail stores and specialist centres in
the UK will allow you to test kit in this fashion, just point out
that if they can't help you you'll go somewhere that can with
you cash in you pocket.

Also don't forget to take your own samples of music with you, it
may sound silly but some players are more suited to Classical or
other styles of music. And remember also, some CD players will NOT
play CD-R's very well, if you use any it's worth testing them, skipping
tracks back and forward etc.

As for functions, whatever suits you is best, I prefer machines
with no remote and the ability to switch off the LED/LCD displays,
apart from that I look at the connectors etc so I know it'll fit
with whatever I've got to go with it.

Horror stories, hmmm, one of the best CD players I had was only
30 quid brand new, worked fine...

Good luck

Mark (Hasbeen)
